Consortium
Partners and people
CATCH is carried out by partners in Finland, Germany and the United States, together with a practice partner in emergency response.
LUT University
Lahti, Finland
Dominik Siemon
Principal Investigator · Academy Research Fellow
Leads CATCH and heads the AI and HCI Behavioral Lab at LUT University. His work is on human–AI collaboration and design science research methodology. In CATCH he holds scientific leadership: developing the theoretical framework, designing the interaction analytics algorithms and experimental methodology, and coordinating the international collaboration.

Kalle Koivunen
Doctoral Researcher
Implements the interaction analytics framework and the adaptive AI systems, runs the experimental sessions and data collection, and integrates the multiple data sources the studies depend on. His doctoral work is carried out within the project, including research visits to DLR and USF.
German Aerospace Center (DLR)

Jan-Paul Huttner
Research Scientist
Brings aviation human factors and psychophysiological measurement expertise from the German Aerospace Center. In CATCH he co-designs the aviation emergency scenarios that keep the simulations operationally realistic, and opens DLR's simulation facilities and professional pilot participants to the project, providing the cross-domain validation that a single site could not produce.
University of South Florida
Tampa, United States
Triparna de Vreede
Assistant Professor
Assistant professor of Information Systems at the University of South Florida's Muma College of Business and director of the Behavioral AI Lab, where she researches the intersection of human behaviour and artificial intelligence. In CATCH she hosts and supports the independent replication in a U.S. emergency management context, opening access to participants there, and contributes psychology and meta-analysis expertise to the synthesis of both sites' results.
Päijät-Häme Rescue Department
Lahti, FinlandPractitioner representatives
Practice partner
Rescue service coordinators take part in interviews, focus groups and experimental studies, validate the operational realism of the scenarios, and give feedback on the prototype systems during the demonstration phase.
Advisory board

Raoul Pilcicki
Founder, HelloAbsent®
Works on measuring human awareness and pairing it with technology, so that systems respond to the state a person is actually in. On the advisory board he brings the view from deployment: what it takes for state-aware systems to hold up in real organisations, with the people who have to use them every day.

Felix Becker
Product Lead & UX Researcher
Works across UX research, human-centred design and product leadership, with years of experience in participatory design, design science research, design thinking and agile coaching. Having both run the research and led the product teams that have to build on it, he advises on what it takes for design knowledge to survive the trip from a study into something that actually ships.
Get in touch
CATCH runs across three countries and a practice partner, and it gets better the more people it is exposed to. If any of this is close to what you do, write to us.
- Emergency response organisationsIf you coordinate under time pressure, we would like to understand how that work actually goes: where it breaks down, which decisions are hard, and what you would and would not want a system to take over.
- ResearchersWork on interaction analytics, adaptive systems, human factors or design science research that touches ours. We are open to joint studies, shared instruments and replication.
- StudentsThesis topics and research assistant positions come up as the project runs. Say what interests you and what you have built.
